EXPOZITIONE Zine fest coming to Kentucky, Summer 2023.
ExpoZItioNE’s mission is to reconnect with the zine-making community here in Kentucky and our surrounding states. Having previously run the collaborative zine at KFZF, we've missed our zine community and the vibe of the culture.
We are exploring venues in both Lexington and Berea. We are currently forming committees and contacting makers. More details are coming soon. If you’d like to get involved, drop us a note!
What's a "zeen"?
Zines are handmade magazines with a rich history. They date as far back as the first pieces of independent press, ie Socrates! Zines had big resurgences in the 1920s and again in the 1960s with punk music and feminism, some of which are still going strong.
Zines can be as simple or as complex as you’d like and can be on any and every topic, literally. One of the cheapest zines to make is a one-page zine that requires a pen or pencil and a piece of paper, that’s it.
The Festival
We’re are busy securing our venue and designing swag. We look forward to sharing more with you soon!

ABOUT THE LOGO
Developed by Renmeleon, there is a lot of symbolism built into the expoZItioNE logo. From the ground up…
Hashmarks.
Renmeleon teaches map illustration to K-12 kids and often uses hashmarks to signify dirt or rock in caves. In this case, it signifies carving out a niche, delving deep, and roughing up the ground.

Megaphone.
The white space in the center housing the text is shaped like a megaphone. It is an announcement and draws the eye to the orange highlighted ZINE in the name as well as Kentucky. Loud and proud.

Spelling and Color.
Orange is the color of healing, which zines are often a form of therapy for both the maker and reader. The word “exposition” as defined above was changed to include the word zine and further set the festival apart. The pronunciation is the same.

Arrows and Lines.
The lines in the top half represent like-minded community and the arrows uplifting growth. “Lift as you climb” is one of our driving mantras as we build community and reconnect our voices.
